Soccer had been played at Indiana University as a club sport since 1947, but the program’s greatest success came under Jerry Yeagley, affectionately known as the grandfather of Indiana men’s soccer. Yeagley arrived in Bloomington in 1963 as a physical education instructor and became the driving force behind the program’s transition from club status to varsity competition in 1974.
