The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernadino. Arrowhead Credit Union Park. Neither name rolls off the tongue too easily, but fans of this Southern California minor league baseball team will soon get a reprieve in the form of a syllable or two. The San Bernardino Sun reports that the single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are announcing a change of the venue name to San Manuel Stadium.
Whereas the Arrowhead Credit Union had a reach seemingly limited to San Bernardino, the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino is known all over the Inland Empire, Orange County, and Los Angeles. The Casino is owned by the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians who are no stranger to sports marketing, advertising at both Dodger Stadium and Staples Center.
As the photos in our review show, the signage at the ballpark was limited as the team seemingly takes great pride in their aesthetics. The scoreboard already contained a San Manuel ad atop the scoreboard, so the changes should be minimal.
This stadium has always been a favorite here at Stadium Journey, ranking as our 8th best minor league baseball stadium in 2011, and we'll be providing an update on the experience early this summer.
