Texas Volts – Dell Diamond

In June 2024, professional women’s sports in the United States took a massive leap forward with the formation of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL). Founded with the promise of making a long-term investment in professional women’s softball, the AUSL began its four-team league in 2025, before expanding to six teams in time for the 2026 campaign.

The league always had the idea of planting a flag in the softball hotbed that is Central Texas; with that in mind, the Texas Volts took the field at Dell Diamond for their inaugural campaign. This venerable park in Round Rock, Texas – a sprawling suburb north of the state capital of Austin – is also home to Triple-A baseball’s Round Rock Express.

At Dell Diamond, the Volts have built a strong fan base, setting a Texas softball attendance record last season with over 6,500 fans in attendance. The AUSL and the Volts now have a historic partnership with Major League Baseball, as well as a television deal with ESPN, to give the league and its teams even more prominence. The future looks bright for professional softball in Round Rock. Read on to learn more about it.

Food & Beverage   4

The food and beverage scene at Dell Diamond has always been exceptional; this doesn’t change much for Volts games. While not every stand is open, the majority of them on the main concourse are, and that’s a great thing.

You’ve got a stand for gourmet hot dogs and milkshakes, a stand for chicken fingers, one for ice cream, one for pizza, and one for tacos and nachos. There is also a barbecue stand supplied by the legendary Southside Market & Barbecue, as well as a specialty iced tea stand from HTeaO. There is even a walk-up full-service bar along the third-base line. Most stands also serve up your traditional game day fare, such as popcorn, soft pretzels, soda, and candy.

Since Dell Diamond is the home of the Round Rock Express, the vast majority of the signage around the park is geared toward them. There is still a ton at the game for softball fans, however, including the Bullpen Bar beyond the outfield walls, offering fans a respite from the summertime Central Texas heat. The bar is adjacent to a play area for kids, which also features a climbing wall.

A Texas Volts team store is located on the main concourse behind the first baseline; I was honestly shocked by the breadth and scope of merchandise that is available. It really speaks to how much support is backing the team and the league.

Lastly, I was witness to one of the most unique in-game experiences I have ever seen. In what is clearly a nod to the league’s targeted audience, beauty and personal care company Sephora has two braid bars – one each behind the first and third baselines – for patrons to have their hair styled in a number of unique ways. It’s honestly one of the best in-game tie-ins I have ever seen.

Neighborhood   3

Round Rock is roughly a 30-minute drive north on Interstate 35 from downtown Austin. Home to countless fine dining restaurants, luxury hotels, the seat of power in the state, one of the largest public universities in the country, and multiple world-class museums, the city has a vibe unmatched anywhere else in the country. Long story short, if by chance you don’t find enough to do on your visit to Dell Diamond to check out the Texas Volts, Austin is just a relatively short car ride away.

Meanwhile, there is quite a bit going on in Round Rock. In terms of dining, you can’t beat either the proximity or the food offered by Salt Lick BBQ. Recognized as one of the top barbecue spots in the state, the Round Rock outpost is within walking distance of the ballpark’s parking lot. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Also, if you find yourself in town early in the morning before a game, you HAVE TO visit Round Rock Donuts; it is a beloved Texas institution and has gained worldwide fame thanks to its tasty treats.

In terms of attractions, the main draw in Round Rock is arguably Kalahari Resorts right down the road from Dell Diamond. Home to an indoor and outdoor waterpark, shows, shops, restaurants, and first-class accommodations, this resort is probably your best bet for entertainment and lodging if you’re heading to a Texas Volts game.

As mentioned in the intro, Volts fans have been showing up for games at Dell Diamond since day one. During the most recent game I attended, the parking lot was virtually full, and the lower grandstand was packed. The fans were loud and engaged, and a vast majority were sporting Volts gear, which was very impressive.

What was also refreshing was that the crowd was very much a majority of women and young girls. To me, this signifies that the AUSL is on to something, and I hope it bodes well for professional softball going forward.

Dell Diamond is located right off US 79, which itself is a spur of I-35. It’s just under a two-hour drive from San Antonio and just over two and a half hours from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. It’s also a half hour from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport if you’re flying in.

If you choose not to drive, Round Rock has multiple public transportation options available that have routes to the ballpark. However, if you do drive, parking is ample in the lots available nearby.

Return on Investment   3

Single-game tickets for Texas Volts games start at $25 per person and reach as high as $75, while parking in the lots on site will set you back $15. While this is higher than the cost you would pay for Round Rock Express games, this hammers home the point that the AUSL is a major league organization, and it’s worth the cost to get in on the ground floor. On the plus side, concessions are still at minor league prices, so you’re getting a bargain there.

The AUSL as a whole doesn’t have many of the bells and whistles that other major professional sports leagues have – for now, the selling point is the action on the diamond. The Volts do have an in-stadium hype man and multiple giveaways and themed days, however, and they also make players available after games for autographs.

Final Thoughts

I wasn’t sure what to expect on my visit, but I was more than pleasantly surprised by what I saw here. The crowd was energetic throughout the game, and they were rewarded with a last at-bat victory by the Volts. The concessions are good, it is easy to get in and get out, and the ballpark still looks great. All in all, it was a great experience and one I definitely would do again. I encourage fans of ball to do the same.
