49ers games aren't the only football events moving south from San Francisco to Santa Clara upon completion of the new stadium. The Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl will be held at the new Santa Clara Stadium starting in 2014 after being at AT&T Park since 2002. While the 49ers leave an aging Candlestick Park, the college football bowl will be leaving a baseball stadium with a mere 40,000 seats for a football stadium with more revenue possibilities.
The team is vying to host the Super Bowl in 2016 and the bowl game, with all the events that surround it, would be a welcomed challenge prior to doing so.
The game will pit a Pac-12 team against what event organizers hope is a big time program from the Big Ten, Big 12 or ACC. In the past the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl has featured schools from the ACC (six appearances), Pac-12 (four), Mountain West (four), Big East (two), WAC (one), Big Ten (one), as well as one independent school.
Illinois beat UCLA in last hear's matchup, while Navy will be play a to be determined Pac-12 opponent on December 29, 2012. Tickets can be purchased here.
