New Food Court is Huge Success at Western & Southern Open

By Conrad Klank -- August 25, 2012 12:28 AM EDT

Home of the Western and Southern Open, The Lindner Family Tennis Center located in Mason, Ohio has seen a major facelift in the past 3 years, most recently with a massive overhaul of the food court. The $3 million food court extension project caps the three-year, three-phase grounds expansion.

After seeing an enormous player and media building addition on the west side of Center Court in 2010, the addition of 6 courts and a grand entry plaza in 2011, this project completes the beautiful grounds of the tennis center. In all, the grounds have grown by a total of 40% in this short timespan.

The new state of the art food court features 14 unique restaurants spanning from national chains to local favorites, upscale dining to ice cream, and boasts cuisine from all over the world.

In addition, there are now two massive dining tents to catch a break from the action and from the sun. Inside each dining tent as well as each restaurant tent there are flat screen TVs so that one will never miss a second of the live tennis going on around the grounds. In the center of the food plaza is a stage which features live music for most of the week. Just in front of the stage is a massive beach house style bar serving up cold beer as well as signature tennis cocktails.

Shortly after the most recent additions to the grounds of the tennis center, the tournament received a very unique and prestigious award-The National Sport Safety and Security Facility of Merit Award honoring those sports facilities that go above and beyond the normal expectations of facility safety and improvements. Additionally, Director of Facilities, Dick Clark, received the National Sport Safety and Security Professional of the Year Award.

This year's tournament set numerous attendance records including single session, day, and tournament attendance numbers. The tournament has seen tremendous growth and appears to only improve year after year. The Western & Southern Open has officially re-claimed their title of "The Fifth Grand Slam" surpassing other great food courts such as The Sony Ericsson Open and The US Open when it comes to dining options and quality.
