NEXUS Stadium Rising as New Jersey's Newest Baseball Destination

For those who drive along Mill Road in Edison, New Jersey, the new NEXUS Stadium is taking shape. Once it opens, it will be not only the home for baseball but a premier year-round destination for sports, culinary experiences, and community events. The NEXUS sports and entertainment district is scheduled to open this fall.

The centerpiece will be NEXUS Stadium, which will serve as the home to the Middlesex College baseball team and also Rutgers University baseball. The $70 million state-of-the-art stadium will seat up to 6,500 people and feature numerous amenities for players and fans. It is set to be completed by the spring of 2027.

“The new stadium at the NEXUS is designed as a premier, multi-use venue capable of hosting a wide range of events and sports, including baseball, soccer, lacrosse, concerts, and community programming,” said Middlesex County Director of Communications, Min Kim. “It’s built to meet Big Ten, NCAA, Minor League Baseball, and FIFA standards; the stadium will provide a world-class experience for athletes, performers, and fans while serving as a year-round destination for residents and visitors.

Kim added that Rutgers Athletics entered into a letter of intent that established the framework for the new stadium to host the Scarlet Knights baseball team; the partnership is intended to make the new stadium its home, with scheduling details, including specific game dates and season usage, being announced once the contract is finalized.

The venue will feature eight private suites, food and beverage options, two party decks, social gathering areas, and an open-air concourse with tabletop seating and a main entrance behind the backstop. It will accommodate 3,500 fixed seats, plus up to 1,500 additional sideline seats for select events.

In addition to the stadium, the complex will include NEXUS Fields at Thomas A. Edison Park, a 180-acre park, including 10 artificial fields, baseball and softball diamonds, tennis courts, and a cricket pitch.

Middlesex County issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to identify potential sports franchise tenants for the new stadium, and discussions are ongoing. Additional information regarding future tenants and partnerships will be announced when available.

NEXUS Stadium is the largest baseball stadium built in the state since ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood and Campbell’s Field (since demolished) in Camden opened in 2001.

Kim added that fans should expect a high-energy, interactive experience that rivals some of the best venues in the region.
