This Stadium is a Fright to Behold
College football is known for its many rivalry games, such as the Oklahoma/Texas game or the Washington/Oregon contest each season. However, there is a lesser-known game each year on October 31. This contest takes place at a neutral site in Eerie, Transylvania, and it pits the squads from Washington Werewolves against the Boston Ghouls. It is popularly known as the Monster Mash rivalry game.
Food & Beverage 4
Skull and Crossbones Stadium offers a wide variety of concessions designed to meet the tastes of both the dead and the undead. These stands offer everything from the basics at the Trick or Treats stands to the more luxury fare found at the Cauldron Kitchen, Crypt Café, Spellbound Sweets and Ghoul Grill locations.
The Trick or Treats stands feature several Halloween standards including candied apples, candy corn, spellbound snacks, and several pumpkin-flavored specialties. Some of their more unique offerings are people’s fingers and heads on lettuce. They offer a wide variety of potions, including Fanta Orange sodas, Bloodied Mary’s and Jack O Lantern Daniels adult beverages. Pumpkin Spice lattes are also available.
Atmosphere 5
Gamedays at Skull and Crossbones Stadium get underway just after sundown as the full moon comes out. Fans love to set up early at the Trick or Treat Tailgates, which take place in a graveyard filled with tombstones, coffins and crypts. Unlike normal tailgates which are designed to create energy, activities at these tailgates are best described as a “dead zone”. These tailgates feature all types of frightful foods, potions and the “Cry Like a Banshee” cheer contest, which determines which school has the best blood curdling scream. Musical entertainment is provided by bands including Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, the Screech Boys and the Crypt Keepers.

As gametime approaches, the fans from both teams conduct a Lantern March to the stadium.
Once inside the stadium, the excitement builds, as each of the teams emerge out of the crypt tunnel, bursting through a wall of fog and lightning to the sounds of the skeleton drumline. The fans howl with delight at this spellbound experience.
Skull and Crossbones Stadium offers several Con-Cession stands where you can buy your fan gear. Our advice is to be very careful as you shop, as the stands are staffed by escaped convicts convicted of all types of murder and mayhem.
Neighborhood 4
The neighborhood surrounding Skull and Crossbones Stadium can be described as something out of the “Living Dead”. It is filled with entire subdivisions composed of haunted houses and mansions, graveyards, dark forests, spooky schools and frightful traffic jams.
Nearby accommodation can be found at the Eerie Howliday Inn, Murder Motel Six, the Haunted Hilton or the very popular Bates Motel. Popular restaurants near the stadium include Wawful House, the Stake and Brew and Witch-A-Burger.
Fans 4
Both the Werewolves and the Ghouls boast of very loyal fanbases. They proudly wear the black and orange colors of their respective teams. After a touchdown the Werewolves fans howl at the moon, while the Ghouls fans typically screech in support of their team’s, as the goblins grind out the yardage.
Fans can keep up with the action on the two huge Vampire videoboards at the back of each of the “end of your life” zones.
The stadium has Poltergeist Patrols to help keep things under control if the “spirited” fans get too rowdy.
Access 3
It is a good idea to get an early start for game nights at Skull and Crossbones Stadium. Traffic can be a monster, and when you reach the stadium the lines to get in can be frightfully long, as the stadium operates with just a skeleton staff. However, season ticket holders and premium seat holders can get in quicker through the Broomstick Express Lanes.
Return on Investment 4
Tickets prices are a frightfully expensive for the once-a-year event…. It will cost you an arm and a leg (literally!)
Parking in the auto graveyard is no trick or treat either. We encourage fans to take the complimentary Skull and Crossbones Shuttle to the game, as it will drop you right at the stadium gates. You will howl with the delight at the money and time you’ve saved!
Concessions are attractively priced, which is a good thing, because when you are a ghost or skeleton, the food tends to go right through you!
Extras 3
Fan Duel operates several Crystal Ball betting locations for fans who want to wager on the winner of the game.
Very few fans leave their seats at halftime, as the bands from each institution conduct a “battle to the death” band competition, featuring such favorites as the themes from Thriller or Ghostbusters.
The Werewolves and the Ghouls play in the NFL (Nighttime Frights League). The Baltimore Ravens recently departed the league saying Nevermore! They have moved to that “other” NFL league!
Final Thoughts
Skull and Crossbones Stadium is not for the weak of heart. However, if you want your stadium experience to be memorable… it should be on your “to do” list.
