The Lynx Have A Home
Carroll Community College began its life not as an independent institution, but as a branch campus of Catonsville Community College (now known as the Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville). In 1992, the Maryland Higher Education Commission directed the campus to begin the process for achieving degree-granting status, and in 1993, Carroll Community College officially became its own accredited, two-year, degree-granting institution. Its campus is located in Westminster, MD, the county seat of Carroll County.
In a significant recent development, Carroll has also embraced a new chapter in its history by adding intercollegiate athletics in 2019. The program started with men's and women's soccer and cross country and has since expanded to include additional sports like volleyball, track & field, and golf. The Lynx compete in the NJCAA Region 20 and the MD JUCO Division 1 Conference.
On September 17, 2026 the college had a grand opening of the James D. Ball Athletic Complex, named in honor of Carroll’s President Emeritus Dr. James D. Ball.
Food & Beverage 1
There was an ice cream truck parked nearby at the closest academic building. It is unknown if the facility will continue to have options at matches. There is a nice area for food offerings if they choose to.
Even if there are no plans for more food options, the close proximity to the campus food operations makes us give them a little credit here.
Atmosphere 3
Only the first phase of this new facility is ready in 2026. This includes a FieldTurf synthetic playing surface and a 400-meter, eight-lane regulation running track. The track is not even lined yet, so the blue coloring has a weird Boise State kind of vibe right now.
Seating is either at a couple of small stands on the far side of the field or on the sloping hill on the home side.
There was a general buzz at the game we attended, which was the first at the facility. Will that continue is hard to answer at this point.
Most fans will likely be family or friends as the commuter school is not likely to have a large amount of students who attend matches.
Neighborhood 3
Westminster, being a far suburb of Baltimore, is in a pretty traditional suburban setting. Baugher’s Restaurant and Farm Market is located near town and is one of the best family-type restaurants around, and offers no better place to buy fresh produce.
Downtown Westminster is also not far away. Here you can find some good choices, such as O’Lordan’s Irish Pub and Restaurant and Maggie’s.
Fans 3
This is truly a friends and family-only type of sports venue. There was a fairly large amount of people attending the grand opening, but we wonder how many will be there on average match days.
Access 4
Route 140 is the main route from the Baltimore area towards Westminster, and it stems from the end of Baltimore’s I-795. Access to Baltimore, Washington D.C., and central Pennsylvania is fairly easy.
The college is an easy find south of the main part of downtown.
There should be plenty of parking near the field.

There is no price to attend games at this point in time.
Extras 2
The blue unlined track stands out right now and even when lined should make a nice Lynx blue statement.
There is a nice outdoor auditorium next to the field.
Final Thoughts
Lynx Field at the James D. Ball Athletic Complex is a fine start for a relatively new athletic program to have as its centerpiece.
