Home Run in a Cup: White Sox Milkshake Steals the Show!

I must have been living under a rock the past few months because during a recent visit to a White Sox game, I discovered what many are calling viral milkshakes. These decadent, rich, and creamy concoctions would make most belt buckles pop just by looking at them, but they have become quite popular at Topo Chico Hard Seltzer Cantina at Rate Field.

The Celebration Cake Shake and the Campfire Milkshake look more like a work of art than a sweet treat, but the lines are long with fans whipping out their hard-earned cash for a chance to try them. They are both served in commemorative milkshake glasses with the Sox 125th anniversary logo and assembled in front of them.

The campire version, released last year to glowing reviews, consists of chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, toasted marshmallows, a piece of Hershey’s chocolate, and graham cracker crumbles. It sells for $15 and customers leave with a glass collectible.

The Celebration Cake Shake is vanilla ice cream with sprinkles, birthday cake pieces, and pinwheel-shaped cookies that pay homage to the club's famous exploding scoreboard. This one sells for $19.

I was surprised to see how many people were lining up for the shakes, and soon realized that the Sox had a hit at their concession stand. The cantina area is a perfect place to cool off from the torrid summer heat that has been gripping the Midwest this year, and how many parents are going to say no to their child wanting such a decadent treat?

Well, my father would have said no.

The Topo Chico Hard Seltzer Cantina is located across the concourse from Section 157 and has a vibe all of its own. Tables, chairs, and couches are designed for fans to escape the heat, and an outside patio provides plenty of shade and a unique view of the playing field.  However, the milkshake production line might keep many from leaving with a frosty mug in their hand.
