By Paul Swaney -- February 17, 2012 2:11 PM EST

The Detroit Tigers and their fans have high hopes for the 2012 season. Coming off a trip to the American League Championship Series, the Tigers unexpectedly signed Prince Fielder this off season after a season ending injury to Victor Martinez. The Tigers hope to run up the score with their new line-up. Thursday the Tigers announced that they will have a new scoreboard in left field at Comerica Park to help keep track of all those runs.

According to Jason Beck of MLB.com, the HD scoreboard will be 6,000 square feet, and be the fourth largest in Major League Baseball.

The Tigers open their season at home on Thursday April 5th, against the Boston Red Sox.
